James C. Couri’s Defamatory Websites ScamRaiders.com and ScamsInc.com

In 2007, I successfully represented George M. Pavia in the ejectment of Couri from one of the four apartments within Pavia's 73rd Street and Fifth Avenue townhouse. A unanimous jury found Couri to be a legal nuisance for sending over 200 faxes to Mr. Pavia’s office falsely accusing him of immoral and unethical behavior, sending about 40-50 similar types of faxes directed at a tenant who lived above Couri to the tenant’s various workplaces, and sent unfounded complaints and disparaging letters to professional organizations about Mr. Pavia and various attorneys involved in the litigation.

In the months that followed Couri’s ejectment, I successfully recovered from Couri approximately $165,000. Shortly thereafter Couri formed Scamraiders.com and ScamsInc.com to continue his harassment of Mr. Pavia, his wife, children, presiding Judge Joan A. Madden, and me, among others.

In response, I created this public service blog, to curtail Couri’s ability to damage, intimidate and fleece his victims. As a result of this blog, I received calls from people who said they were current victims of Couri’s harassment, intimidation, and false blog posts. In addition, counsel defending U.C.L.A. Medical Center against Couri's medical malpractice claims used the court records posted to my blog to force Couri to withdraw his meritless medical malpractice lawsuit. No doubt, Couri’s victims and U.C.L.A. Medical Center were satisfied to learn Couri is a thrice-convicted felon (federal bank fraud and two counts of federal securities fraud), a prolific pro se litigant, a court-declared vexatious litigant in both New York and California, and the debtor of a fraud judgment of more than $15 million (for the benefit of Dr. John Siebert).

Couri has never been encumbered by the truth. Indeed, it is Couri’s stock and trade to attack and defame the lawyers, judges, litigants, businesses, and persons who will not succumb to his demands for money, threats or prevarications.

Note: George M. Pavia Esq. is the named partner of the Manhattan law firm of Pavia & Harcourt. Justice Sonja Sotomayer was a partner of the law firm before becoming a federal court judge, and ultimately, an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
